People ask where I get the inspiration for my primitive and folk art dolls and I tell them it is usually a piece of fabric, lace or vintage quilt. Sometimes a song or old story will bring a doll to my mind. And sometimes, I find something special that deserves a special doll. This pretty folk art angel came to my mind when my daughter made me a tiny 3" wide miniature book wreath that says "dream" in the center. I knew this wreath was perfect for one of my dolls!I've recently started using paper clay for my doll heads on muslin bodies and I am so very pleased with this new medium! This sweet collectible angel was a pleasure to make and I love the way she came out! She is my doll number 935, and would look perfectly at home in your French country style decor as well as a shabby chic room or with your cottage style.
She has a muslin body and her arms and legs are knotted at the joints to bend easily. Her muslin outfit is lace trimmed at collar, cuffs and hemline and her crazy quilt wings are lightly wired so they stay perky. Her whole outfit is vanilla coffee aged to look old and vintage like an attic find, but she is brand new just for you. She will come signed and numbered.
Her big brown eyes are thickly lashed and have a little twinkle. I painted her face using bright acrylics then sealed it with a clear finish. Her hair is made of Italian mohair and is tied in a fat bun at her nape. I've curled tendrils to frame her face and finally gave her an antique style skeleton key which goes to the lock attached to her book wreath.
